In today's Ask Lao, We Are All Such Bad People, Lao takes on the MOVAV and their supposition that violent video games cause violence:
Since this seems to be the big issue of concern currently on many websites (or the basis for threads upon threads of mockery), I'll take my views of the Mothers Against Videogame Addiction and Violence (http://www.mavav.org).
While no doubt many will pass this off as a hoax (which I do myself in part, thanks to the utter lack of content on the site), the message just the site itself makes is a bold one. One that hits particularly hard on our type of community.
Asheron's Call, along with many of the other MMORPGs out there are based completely on addiction. You pay the monthly fee to play? You are hooked and sucked into the scheme. Is that a bad thing? Not in my opinion. As long as it doesn't get out of hand.
