Yes, they did in fact call this update a "hotfix". Even though it activates a whole lot of new stuff in-game. Oh my, where should i start? Well, they extended the Data Node system to allow people to actually farm items out of them as well. Here's how it works:
Several new data taps have been added for levels 20-50. These new taps offer increased tap rates, bonus info, and chances to pull bits or code fragments out of data nodes. Most of the new taps can draw the attention of hostile programs, however, so greedy data miners need to be ready to flee or fight while mining. With the exception of some of the sequences triggered by the rare, high level taps, these encounters are generally soloable, even with memory tied up for mining. All of the new new taps are craftable... and two of them can only be created by a Tool Maker - there is no other way to get them. Characters with Tool Maker at level 50 should check the Tools->Tool category in their Code Analyzer Tool in the level 56-60 range. Any recipes for making luggables will appear here as well once they are learned.
The programs spawned by the new tools aren't just there to rough up Data Miners, they also have some extra loot. Most of them just carry extra bits or frags, but the toughest groups have one of 4 new luggables. Three of these luggables give nice bonuses themselves, but can also be converted into special frags that can be used to craft new items, including a couple crafting bonus luggables and a portable (but slightly less effective than normal) signal booster. Except for the signal booster, which only flips your PVP flag while in your inventory, the new luggables can be released completely by dropping them, right-clicking, and selecting 'Release'.
